A Lebanon girl celebrated her eighth birthday with a canned food drive.
Alexa Lane, the daughter of Amy and Michael Lane, explained that after learning about a girl who collected shoes for an orphanage in China, she wanted to do something to help others.
For her birthday last month, she asked friends and family members to bring canned food that could be donated to the Lebanon Food Pantry/Lebanon Warrior Backpack Program.
“I realized that some people need food and they don’t have as much as I do,” said Alexa, a second-grader at Bowman Primary School.
Alexa celebrated her birthday with a Little Chef’s Lasagna Cooking Class Birthday Party at Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant in Kenwood. On her invitations, she asked that canned good donations be brought instead of gifts.
She collected 220 cans of food and personnel hygiene products; and Maggiano’s donated $150 to the Lebanon Food Pantry. Alexa and her mother delivered the items to the food pantry.
