BASSMA Lights a Match
at its ‘Talking Windows’ Fundraising Gala Dinner
Inspired by the Little Match Girl’s story, BASSMA spreads hope during its annual charitable event

Beirut, Lebanon – December 2015: BASSMA, an award-winning NGO working on empowering destitute families, hosted its 13th annual gala dinner, under the theme of ‘Talking Windows’ on December 9, 2015 at the Pavillon Royal in BIEL. Over 700 guests shared the joy of the holiday season and helped BASSMA raise funds during a magical, heartwarming night inspired by Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen’s famous short story, “The Little Match Girl”.

Commenting on the occasion, Sandra Klat Abdelnour, Founding President at Bassma said, “Bassma is extremely grateful to all our donors, sponsors and supporters, whose generosity enables us to keep changing lives, one family at a time.” She adds, “Just like Anderson pictured it in the pages of his novel, we made the images of hope and family warmth that the little match girl remembers every time she lit that match, at the core of our event.”

The sold-out fundraising event, “Talking Windows,” welcomed a broad spectrum of talent to lend a special touch to entertain the generous and supportive guests. After warm welcomes from the evening’s emcees, Rita Lamaa and Silvio Chiha, attendees enjoyed a theatrical performance by ‘The Little Match Girl’ who walked around the attendees and told her story. The great countertenor Mateo Khodor and rising star Maritta Hallani also launched the event’s entertainment line-up, while an enchanting set from Pianist Michel Fadel and his orchestra charmed guests throughout the remainder of the night.

Throughout the past 13 years, bighearted donors and supporters have led to the success of Bassma which has helped more than 85,000 people. With ongoing activities and contributions, Bassma aims to further extend the growth of its family by empowering more and more families in Lebanon.
