(source: www.dailystar.com.lb)    Medical organizations announced Thursday they are working to increase the number of people in the country vaccinated against dangerous viruses such as Human Papilloma Virus and rotavirus. The Lebanese Pediatric Society and Merck Sharp and Dohme Lebanon, a pharmaceutical company, held a news conference at the Order of Physicians to try and raise awareness about the importance of vaccines ahead of a world vaccination week that runs until Tuesday. In Lebanon, cervical cancer, usually caused by HPV, is the second most common cause of cancer in women and around 180 cases are diagnosed every year. The Order of Physicians recommends females 11 years old or above receive the HPV vaccination. Although vaccinations help fight off viruses, health workers offering treatments often face cultural stigmas because they're being perceived as causing other health problems. MSD Lebanon officials say 2.5 million people are protected from viruses ever year from the drive.
